Classification: IGP

Year: 2016

Grapes: 40% Carbernet sauvignion, 30% Merlot and 30% Syrah

This wine has a heavy scent of dark fruits and berries, and has a very deep ruby red appearance. The wine does have a somewhat strong acidic front-taste that some may describe as peppery or smoky, and you can definitely taste a rich blend of dark fruit flavours such as blackberry, plum, and a hint of black cherry. However, the flavours balance out quite nicely, and results in a surprisingly smooth finish in the end. Despite the perhaps initially overwhelming strong flavours at first, this wine does not have a bitter or dry after-taste. You can still taste the lingering pepper or smoky flavours after, but they certainly don’t overwhelm your taste buds. While I wouldn’t consider this a smooth wine, there are a lot of rich flavours to enjoy in this one. This is the kind of wine I would casually sip back and enjoy the flavours rather than pounding an entire glass or bottle back in an entire sitting (probably like most wines, but I digress... I’m still learning and have plenty more to go through). Those that like a smoother or lighter wine would probably not enjoy this one as much.

Pairings: Meats such as steak and veal would go great. I had this paired with my bowl of Italian sausage stuffed tortellini for dinner last night, and it tasted great! One review I saw on Vivino says it apparently tastes great with Chinese food!
