Puech Haut was one of the many wineries I had the distinct pleasure to visit in Languedoc. I personally had zero complaints about the wines I tasted there (their rosé was perhaps one of my favorites). I was fortunately lucky enough to hunt down each of the wines I tried out in Languedoc here in Alberta; their Prestige Rouge, Prestige Rose, and their Prestige Blanc. We'll be talking about their Prestige Blanc today.
You can get a very loving and sweet aroma to this wine as you open it. Very light and sweet scents of lemon will pleasantly tickle your senses (more the sweetness than citrusy part, so don't worry about your nose hairs getting incinerated as you embrace these aromas). The initial taste is a tad acidic, but blends out quite nicely shortly after. Once the initial acidity simmers down, you can get a handful off deep but slightly sweet flavours. Flavours such as caramel, honey, and butterscotch are what come to mind (I believe the technical wine term is “earthy” or “oaky”). The flavours are not too sweet, but they balance out quite decently. This has a surprisingly deep and rich body here, especially for a white, and a somewhat silky and buttery texture as it works its way in your mouth. There is a very floral and fresh finish and a very light peppery aftertaste to it.
As far as white wines go, this one is not that sweet. This is another one of those wines that you’re probably going to enjoy more by sipping back and letting the flavours unfold in your mouth than pound back an entire bottle in one sitting (like I generally try not to do for these reviews). Those that like a sweeter white wine may not enjoy this one too much, but those that like deeper flavours would probably enjoy this one.
Pairings: This one would go nicely with seafood and vegetables. This one went nicely with my Mediterranean pizza I had for dinner a few nights ago.

Overall Rating: 3.5 Languedoc Crosses out of 5

This one I was lucky enough to find at BSW liquor store in Sherwood Park, but LiquorConnect.com does not list this location as having it (I was there somewhat recently... trust me as it was also where I found their rosé). I'll update this section when I see more stores listed.
