I know I’ve described almost all of the red wines I’ve reviewed to have scents of red fruits or berries. However, this one had a much different scent when I opened it. There is definitely a sweet scent that can be picked out, but this one has a more distinct oaky and even earthy scent to it; specifically scents of trees and wood can be made as well. It’s a pleasant and refreshing smell, and gave me images of walking through the forest and embracing the natural aromas in it. There are hints of darker fruits such as plum and blackberries and sweeter fruits like raspberries in the beginning when you take a sip. Heavy emphasis on “beginning” because you will then get a distinct bold flavour once this wine truly gets into your taste buds that will overtake those flavours. That said, there’s quite an interesting blend of flavours in the body. Flavours such as tobacco and dark chocolate and objects such as oak and wood (don’t ask me how I know what wood tastes like) can be made out in the body. Although there is a bit of a dry finish to this, there are slight aftertaste of pepper and even cinnamon at the end too.

Although this one may be a bit too heavy on the body for some, there is quite a unique body to this one and quite a number of flavours that can be made out. This is another one that I would personally take the time to sip back and analyze the flavours. If this is not your wine drinking style, then I would probably pass on this one. This one was certainly a nice change in most of the red wines I’ve had so far. I can definitely appreciate the unique body to this wine and it’s corresponding range of flavours.

Pairings: This one i initially struggled to think what would be a good pairing for it. The official recommendation is "on it’s own, or served with an elegant charcuterie plate" but I had no such thing being quarantined. I decided to give this a try with some crubside pickup for some good old fashioned Wing Wednesday Canadian Brewhouse wings (had some spicy dill and lemon peper). Went decent. Would do again.

Overall Rating: 3.5 Languedoc Crosses out of 5

· Vinestone Wine Co (Cochrane)

Seriously that's all that shows up. I got this one at Allegra Wine and Spriits in West Edmonton Mall awhile ago, but i guess they're sold out now too.. Will gladly update if I see this one on the shelves or listed elsewhere if it gets updated.
