Time for another rosé! Although my rosé palette is still quite young, I felt I’ve tried enough wines to see if I can dive deeper and more thoroughly into the rosé game. Besides, I kinda have high expectations with a name like Les Fleurs du Mal (translates into “The Evil Flowers”).
Upon opening the bottle, scents of summer strawberries and floral aromas will fill your nostrils. They’re quite welcoming and perfect for the much warmer weather we’re starting to see. There are definitely a lovely and somewhat sweet taste of strawberries to the body. Again, this one is not overpoweringly sweet and doesn’t feel like an overdose of sugar like some people think all rosés will give. On top of this sweetness, the body is a bit peppery and there are some light citrusy flavours, such as grapefruit and orange, that can be made out. In fact, there is actually a nice balance between these somewhat spicier flavours with the initial sweetness that give the body a nice boost of extra flavours. Its not too sweet, and its not too citrusy. The finish to this wine is a tad dry, but there is a nice tingle of those citrusy and peppery tastes at the tip of your tongue as you finish that last sip.
I liked this one. There is still a nice sweet feel to this one while packing a bit of an extra punch with the slightly peppery and citrusy tastes. The flavour still feels somewhat light, but I personally like the extra kick this one presents. This one is quite smooth from start to finish, and has a decent variety of balanced flavours to experience. This is one I also give a recommendation to try if you want to get a better feel for what rosés can offer. I’m definitely starting to enjoy and appreciate rosés a lot more now. I’ll still save my Puech Haut Prestige Rosé once my pallet gets better developed for another day (perhaps May Long weekend?).
Pairings: This one is quite smooth that it can go down fine on its own. Light appetizers, snacks, veggies, and lean fish would go great. This one I decided to pair up with some grilled vegetables and bacon wrapped scallops again (non hot dog cooker grilled this time... still haven’t gotten to cleaning that thing yet... probably should). Went down quite nicely!
