The time has come to try another wine from Chateau Viranel, but this time we're giving their Tradition Blanc.
The scents to this one are very earthy and mineraly (not sure if this is a word but it is now). There's a nice freshness to the nostrils when you sniff this wine. There are also some lovely light sweet and citrusy scents too.
The initial flavours to this one are quite overwhelming full of minerals. There's a very dominating but pleasantly fresh and earthy feel to it. There a light touch of sweetness and citric notes at the end that are quite welcome. Very light notes of honey, green apple, apricot, butter, and incredibly light hints of grapefruit can be distinguished that give a nice tingle at the end. While the body to this wine is quite light and smooth, the sweeter flavours mentioned are not that strong in this wine. This one is not heavy on the tastebuds at all. This is more on the fresh side versus sweet/flavourful side, but it’s a nice change. This one has a nice silky and buttery smoothness that makes it enjoyable to pound back. The finish is very light and fresh, with some floral notes at the end too. You can still taste those fresh minerals notes from awhile back. There’s not much of distinct taste that lingers on afterwards, but the nice fresh earthy, mineral, and floral notes are quite pleasant.
The taste, body, and finish in this one is perhaps one of the freshest I’ve felt in a white wine. It is not the sweetest white I've had, and the lack of sweetness may turn some people off, especially to those who like a sweeter white wine, but this one is a nice change if you want to explore what else a decent white wine can provide. The best way I can explain it is like drinking an alcoholic mineral water. Not the most flavourful, but very fresh nonetheless!
Pairings: This one would go great with seafood such as salmon, cod, shrimp, or scallops. A nice grilled chicken breast would also go great with this one too!
